yeah, so if i had to describe today it would look like this: at least three cups of oolong. work. haircut. crunchy gringo tacos. tangerine beer. random excitement about the new bike lock i will wrap around the new old french bike I will ride to work for the first time tomorrow afternoon. and then it’s mayhem. in a bizarre twist, my brain loses all order.
i usually aim for diversity in my posts. but this bike…this bike!!! obsessed. freaking obsessed. confession: i’ve been cruising craigslist for bike accessories. how do i whisper that in print? how do i mention discreetly that i’ve been shopping for a basket. i bought a bike lock. and a light. next paycheck, i will buy good tires. i am asking the guys at west county cycle service if they’ll show me how to patch a flat and do basic bike maintenance.
i’m not a cyclist. i don’t wear flourescent lycra with numbers and team names and walk funny through the grocery store with my special cleat bike shoes. no. it’s not that kind of passion. it’s soft and it’s old but it’s new because i forgot how fun and freeing it feels to ride a bike. to stop at a red light and rest my tiptoes on the curb and push off when it’s green. yeah, i took a test spin and laughed for no reason all the way. other than it is just fun.
this i know: next? my bike needs to be named.
First thing’s first…is your bike male or female?
delicate yet strong, light, quick and beautiful, my bike has revealed that she is a female with equal parts yin and yang.
Hmmm…then a sort of androgynous female name would be great…
yes, this has been my thinking too! i also think that she has a name possibly not typical of the united states. and while she is from france, her name is not necessarily french…i think…i think this is a perfect opportunity to post for suggestions!!!
Some ideas:
Maya
Kali
Danu
Finn
Alix
Freya
Liv
Astra
ooooh! i especially love the last three!
Those three are Scandinavian. My favourite, too, but I’m biased. π
I especially love “Freya” for a strong but graceful bike. π
totally love freya. that is the one i was leaning towards as a first name because it resembles my last name.
Ohhhhhh, I’m thinking FiFi…..slightly French, slightly funny….we’ll have to go for a ride….I love riding the bike trail from Graton to Forestville…
Kathy!!! Hi!!! I am laughing a really good laugh about “Fifi.” It’s actually almost perfect…I got some other great suggestions earlier too. Like “Astra” and “Freya”…we shall see!
